2007 Baja 250
There were few outstanding problems leading up to race day. Things went smoother then normal...we should have known something was wrong.
When Scott came by us on the
highway he was making good time. He had caught a couple people and continued to
make time on the leaders. However we found our wait at Ojos to be particularly
nerve racking. He was a good 15-20 minutes late, during said time we had no
radio contact. He had rolled on a hard right turn while moving through the dust.
After Scott got out, and with a little help, got it back on all four, the car
decided it wasn't done giving Scott a headache. So it shot down a nearby hill
with Scott chasing after. A few minutes of weaving up the soft and steep incline
and Scott was back on the road. When he came in we found (and he calmly
informed) that he had lost oil, which although it took much longer then it
should have, we topped him off on.
Now Scott was back on the road and bent on
making up time. The RallyTracker fell off upon his exiting of the pit, and we
found the best course of action to be withholding this information to Scott as
to keep him focused on just driving. The next time we saw him was around RM 100
for the drivers change. We topped the fuel, re-attached the RallyTracker and
noticed to our dismay, that a bolt on the front end's the thru rod was backing
out. So another lengthier then necessary pit went by and Frank Wagner was on the
road in the car. After this point we had little contact with the car until after
the race. But a couple setbacks included a flat tire and a faulting ignition
system. So Frank brought it in for 14th place out of 21 finishers (and 27
starters). Overall points has us in 4th place, a mediocre yet very frustrating 4
points away from 2nd. We have high hopes for the 500 where Scott and Brady will
team up together.
2007 MORE Balls Out 250
A week after the 250 Scott decided to head out to Barstow to mess around at the Balls Out 250. He held a good lead for a majority of his race. When the axle broke he led 2nd place in 12 by a good 10 minutes and was making up time from his current 3rd place position in class 10. Stupid problems seem to enjoy holding us from contention but that's racing at it's prime. He had a good time though and at the end of the day that's what matters most.
Jesse James' Tonight Show Segment
If anyone saw Jesse James on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, you would have also seen a couple clips of our car going off the leap. It wasn't until recently this came to our attention and it's always fun to see the car on tv. To check out the clip go here.
